SC Community

Focused on art and science, our media was founded by the Hungarian civil organization (NGO) GeoThink in 2010 without any financial help but with keen collaboration of a group of friends, volunteer journalists, young researchers and artists with the aim of keeping and creating value. Our main goal is to provide the opportunity of a stepping stone for creative and talented people.
After the Hungarian success we are keen on continuing this work worldwide, first in English, Spanish and Portuguese than in further languages too - aiming to create value by bringing science and art closer to the public. We now intend to create an international and multicultural media and we welcome every creative and talented person who wants to join us, who has thoughts, opinion, research topic, artwork, or even travelling testimonials to share. This cross-border attitude and the multilingual media can connect people from all around the world who can learn from each other, who can share different cultural backgrounds.

Being a scientist or artist is a kind of privilege and mystery since the mankind can think about himself, it can give you the impression of initiation. Whitin science you whish to learn the world, in art you want to create something new from the world you have learnt. In both, you are free, your thoughts are free. Get to know, create, find your voice. This is the best place for it. Join us!

The Union Jack and Hungarian Racism – Daily Poppins 3.

In spite of the fact that most of the museums are free of charge (unbelievable for someone coming from Eastern Europe), one of the major forms of entertainment in London is shopping. As a beginner,  it was highly recommended that I start at a nearby shopping centre, then take the matter further and visit Camden Town, the terribly busy territory for shopping tourism. One of the main conclusions one comes to when taking this kind of trip is that you can sell literary anything with good marketing. The creativity of English people is infinite as far as souvenirs are concerned; anything can be transformed into a relic from UK.

Ancient Traditions and Chinese Aladdin – Daily Poppins 2.

One of the really British elements of the Christmas New Year period is the “panto” or in full name, “pantomime”. Contrary to the wildly held misconception, it has nothing to do with strange, white-faced and mute men or Charlie Chaplin. That is simply called “mime”. Pantomime is family-friendly musical comedy, generally performed in December and January – the stories are often parodies of well-known fairytales.

Scottish Birthday with Sheep Stomach – Daily Poppins 1.

Because of certain anomalies in the Hungarian higher education system our author needs to stay in London until the end of the summer and scrape along as an au-pair – like an Eastern-European Mary Poppins. Consequently, our readers gain the opportunity to see and marvel at the characteristics, oddities and everyday life in the British capital from a foreigner’s perspective. Our article series aims to share all the experiences awaiting those who arrive to the royal city as a tourist or even as an employee.

Beautiful Africa and its Problems

It’s been close to a year in Africa and I was lucky enough to travel different countries because of my job profile. I traveled to East, West and Central Africa and it gave me enough opportunity to observe social-political structure. For some people who are outside of Africa, they see it as a single country, but first thing I would like to point out – Africa is a continent; not a country. Africa has 54 countries, and each country is different than other. If you travel from East Africa to West, you will see big differences. If you travel to Central Africa, you will find it very different from West Africa; I believe same for North Africa.

Africa and Volunteers in Africa

If you live in Africa, beside wild safaris and beautiful beaches you will find one more thing in abundance: hundred thousands of volunteers from West. No matter which country you go, you will find western volunteers everywhere. Mostly volunteers are young kids, fresh pass outs from schools, colleges, universities etc.

St Petersburg is the first city in the list to visit

That was exactly my way to perceive the magic of travelling. That was my first experience in squeezing myself into adventures. By “squeezing” I mean the conditions I had to struggle: my own fears for leaving a cosy home place and my hunger for strong feelings and emotions.

Bosnia - She will humble you

One September’s day way back in 2005, I agreed to accompany my then 50-something year old father-in-law-to-be, Danilo, on a drive down from Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, where I was living at the time, to northern Bosnia. Danilo was interested in purchasing some land down there and wanted to go and check out a few potential spots before committing to anything.

Matheran II

Ah yes, once that we’ve summited Matheran, a very different environment confronts you all at once. All along, the forest along the rocky crags was sparse, and a few hoary trees stood guard, bravely fighting off the wind, and nothing more than grass and shrubbery seemed to dominate the landscape. But Matheran? It’s quite a world apart from the world we’ve just come from!

How to get an in-depth view of America's natural wonder

The world is full of amazing things to see, but there are a select few sites that people agree are truly wonders of the world. The tradition started a long time ago, in ancient Greece, when Antipater of Sidon listed the unrivaled buildings of the day. More recently, new lists of world wonders have been proposed including both man-made and natural sites, providing the perfect blueprint for a traveler's "bucket list". Luckily, Americans can start checking things off right in their own spectacular backyard by taking a Grand Canyon tour.

Matheran

Once in a while, it gives great pleasure to write about an adventure i'd enjoyed. Of course, most of these adventures share one thing in common, mountains, adrenaline, pretty girls and a wee bit of distress!!
